- Most gym enquiries in Riyadh arrive on WhatsApp and Instagram, in the evening, and start with the price.
- The reply that converts gives the price, asks about the goal, and offers two concrete trial slots.
- Schedules differ for women’s and men’s sections; the agent must know which one it is booking.
- During Ramadan, the peak moves to after Taraweeh, often past 10 p.m. Your replies should follow.
A market that changed in a few years
Since women’s gyms were licensed in 2017 and Vision 2030’s Quality of Life Program made physical activity a national goal, Riyadh has filled with chains, boutique studios, CrossFit boxes and women-only clubs. Choice is abundant, and prospective members compare on the phone, in a few messages.
That is why the first reply matters so much. A price list PDF sent the next morning loses against a clear answer and a booked trial the same evening.
The conversation that books a trial
Local details the agent must get right
| Topic | What to set up |
|---|---|
| Sections | Separate schedules, coaches and capacity for women’s and men’s areas |
| Week | Sunday to Thursday working week, Friday and Saturday weekend |
| Prayer times | Classes and replies planned around them; no bookings during Friday prayer |
| Ramadan | Late opening, peak after Taraweeh, suhoor-time classes in some clubs |
| Language | Arabic by default, English on request, Gulf dialect understood |
After the trial
The day after the trial, a short message asks how it went and repeats the offer, valid for a few days. Members who stop coming after two or three weeks get a personal check-in, not a promotion. The same logic works everywhere; our French guide to re-engaging inactive members shows the scripts.
Consent under the PDPL
Answering a price enquiry is service. Sending offers afterwards needs explicit consent under Saudi Arabia’s Personal Data Protection Law, which does not recognise the “legitimate interest” shortcut available under GDPR. Collect consent at sign-up, with a separate tick box. More in is WhatsApp marketing legal in Saudi Arabia.
For the full setup, see our page on WhatsApp for gyms in Saudi Arabia, and for the regional picture gyms in the UAE.

Frequently asked questions
Should a gym give its price on WhatsApp?
Yes. Hiding it frustrates prospects. Give the price clearly, then ask about their goal and offer a trial with two specific time slots.
Can the agent book the right section?
Yes, if the setup includes separate schedules and coaches for women’s and men’s sections. The agent asks when it is unclear.
What changes during Ramadan?
Opening hours move later and the busiest time is usually after Taraweeh. Replies, reminders and class bookings should follow those hours.
Do we need consent to send offers?
Yes. Saudi Arabia’s PDPL requires explicit consent for marketing messages. Collect it separately at sign-up and honour opt-outs immediately.
